Nessebar: the headline sight
Nessebar sits on a rock peninsula and is on the UNESCO list for its medieval churches and wooden Revival houses. It is also the busiest of the three. Cross the causeway early, before the coach parties arrive.
Sozopol: the best for wandering
Sozopol is the oldest town on the Bulgarian coast, founded as Apollonia Pontica. It has narrow lanes of dark-timber houses and two beaches. It has a bohemian, arts-festival feel. If you only have time for one town and like to wander, this is the one.
Pomorie: the easiest half day
Pomorie is the quietest of the three. It is a narrow peninsula town with a salt museum, healing lake mud, a monastery and a serious wine and brandy industry. Because it is so close, it is the safest option on a contest day.
Fitting a trip around Eurovision
Semifinal and final nights start in the evening. A morning departure and a mid-afternoon return leaves plenty of margin. Keep coins for the return bus ticket, and allow extra time to get to the arena. See all the options on our nearby destinations guide and plan your transfers with getting around.
