Walk the Sea Garden
Burgas's seafront park, laid out in 1910, runs the length of the city above the beach — a wide promenade of plane trees, flower beds, sculptures, an open-air theatre and the old casino building. It is the heart of the city and free to enter.

Swim at the Central Beach and walk the Bridge
The city beach sits right below the Sea Garden. Its landmark is the Bridge (Mostut), a wooden pier reaching out over the water — the classic spot for sunrise, sunset and a photo. The sand is dark and the water shallow and calm.

See the pink salt lakes and flamingos
Atanasovsko Lake, a working saltpan on the city's northern edge, turns rose-pink in summer and draws flamingos, pelicans and hundreds of other bird species. You can walk the salt dykes, buy local sea salt and try the healing lake mud.

Take a boat to St Anastasia Island
Bulgaria's only inhabited Black Sea island lies a short boat ride from Burgas harbour: a former monastery, a lighthouse, a small museum and a restaurant on a rock in the open sea. Book the boat in advance in high season.

Wander Aleksandrovska Street
The long pedestrian high street is where Burgas shops, drinks coffee and people-watches — cafés, terraces, market halls and street musicians, running from the railway station up towards the Sea Garden.

Visit the museums
Compact and central: the Regional History Museum, the Archaeological Museum with Thracian and antique finds, the Ethnographic Museum and the Natural History Museum are all within a short walk of Aleksandrovska Street.

Bathe at Aquae Calidae
On the edge of the city at Vaya, the restored Roman-Ottoman mineral baths of Aquae Calidae – Thermopolis pair a historical park and visitor centre with naturally hot mineral water — a half-day trip that few visitors expect.

Just south of the city, the Poda Nature Reserve is one of Europe's richest birdwatching wetlands, with a hide and a small nature centre overlooking the lagoons where the rivers meet the sea.
