The weather, honestly
October is the coast's gentlest month for walking. Daytime temperatures usually reach about 19°C, falling to roughly 12°C at night, with around five hours of bright sunshine a day and typically four days of rain across the whole month. The sea holds around 18°C — swimmable for the hardy, perfect for a paddle for everyone else. Bring layers, a light rain shell and shoes you can walk 10 km in.
What stays open — and what doesn't
Burgas is a working city of about 200,000 people, not a seasonal resort, so the centre carries on regardless. The Sea Garden — the clifftop park laid out in 1910 — is free and arguably better in autumn light, with the wooden Bridge pier below it near-empty at sunrise. Museums, the Bogoridi bar strip and the mehanas all operate year-round.
What winds down: beach bars, sunbed rentals, boat trips and much of the Sunny Beach strip, where hotels shut for winter. If nightlife is your priority, October means Burgas itself rather than the resorts.
Eating and day-tripping in autumn
Autumn is good eating season: clay-pot kavarma, bean soup and Bulgarian reds from Melnik and Mavrud suit the cooler evenings better than a beach salad. A main in a mehana runs about €8–13, a full dinner with drinks €20–30. See our food guide for what to order.
