BurgasFlightsFullorPriceyforEurovision2027?FlyingIntoVarnaorSofiaInstead
If flights to Burgas Airport (BOJ) are full or expensive, fly into Varna (VAR) and take a coach of about 2 hours for roughly €10–15. Sofia (SOF) is a second fallback: 6–7 hours by bus for €15–23, or a one-hour domestic flight. Varna is usually the easier backup.

TL;DR
Burgas Airport (BOJ) is the best-placed gateway, but if fares spike for Eurovision 2027, Varna is the best fallback and Sofia the second. Both connect to Burgas by public transport.
Option 1: Varna Airport (VAR)
Varna is the other big Black Sea airport. From there, intercity coaches run down the coast to Burgas in about 2 hours for roughly €10–15. That makes it a realistic plan B, especially if you can arrive a day early.
Buses arrive at Burgas Yug (South) station, right beside the railway station, so you are in the centre as soon as you step off. The compact centre is walkable, and the station sits on the flat loop to the Sea Garden and beach. See our getting here guide for the full list of routes.
Option 2: Sofia Airport (SOF)
Sofia has the most year-round flights, so it often has the best fares. From there you have three ways to reach Burgas:
- Bus: 6–7 hours, about €15–23
- Train: 7–8 hours, about €13–20, slow but scenic, ending in central Burgas
- Domestic flight: about 1 hour, then the airport bus
We would not use Sofia on a show day. Treat it as an arrive-a-day-early route, and allow time for delays.
What about the final leg from BOJ?
If you do find a BOJ flight, it is only 10 km from the centre. City bus line 15 costs about €0.80 and takes around 25 minutes. A metered taxi runs about €10–15.
Which should you choose?
Pick BOJ if the fare is within about €50–80 of the alternatives, because a 2-hour coach each way costs time and energy. Pick Varna if you want a city break first. Pick Sofia only for a much cheaper fare, or to combine Burgas with the capital.
