What stays open
The Sea Garden does not close. Laid out in 1910 on the cliff above the beach, it is at its best in winter: bare plane trees, empty sculpture alleys, and the wooden pier known as the Bridge with nobody on it. The dark-sand Central Beach below is walkable all year — just not swimmable.
Indoors, the archaeological and ethnographic museums, the city's mehanas and the central wine bars carry the season. Clay-pot kavarma, bob chorba (bean soup) and banitsa are winter food by design. What closes
The resort strip is the casualty. Sunny Beach largely shuts; Nessebar and Sozopol old towns stay open but with reduced restaurant choice. Seasonal bike and scooter share pauses. Most importantly, Burgas Airport (BOJ) is primarily a summer gateway — in winter you will often fly to Sofia and take a coach (6–7 h, €15–23) or the train (7–8 h, ~€13–20), or come down from Varna by bus in about 2 hours. The contest is a spring event, so winter is your planning window, not your visiting one — but a cheap off-season recce is the best way to learn the walk from the centre to the arena quarter before 40,000 people do it at once.
